Clicks Aren't Worth It

Before Monday, before the 911 call and police investigation, Pedro Ruiz III, an aspiring YouTube star in rural Minnesota, spent considerable time persuading his girlfriend to shoot a gun at his chest.
There would be a thick encyclopedia book between the barrel and his body, authorities say he told 19-year-old Monalisa Perez. The pages, he reasoned, would stop the bullet.
So on Monday evening, the young couple positioned two cameras outside their home and prepared for their breakthrough stunt. They wanted fame, family said, and danger often brings it.

“Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most dangerous videos ever,” Perez teased in a tweet at 5 p.m. “HIS idea not MINE.”
He even had evidence that it had worked once before — a different book with an entrance hole but no exit.

  1. Thanks to the stupid culture we have nowadays, young people want to be famous. Not famous FOR anything, just famous. I've heard it called "The Kardashian Effect." They aren't alone, just the most famous for being famous.

  2. Doofus. A .50AE Deagle, at near contact distance. Obviously he did no investigation of what it takes to stop a bullet from a magnum level handgun. That thing has the energy at 100yds of a .44 mag at the muzzle.

Ever see Richard Davis do his body armor demo, back when he ran Second Chance? Saw it in person at SOF 3-gun match. He would put a very large phone-book behind the armor, and state that if the armor failed, at least the book would stop the bullet. Then he would stand the book in front of a multi-pak of large soda bottles, and shoot it with his .44mag. Of course the soda blew all over the place, and he would act a bit nervous as he repositioned it prior to shooting himself. The book was just to spread the impact, so he wouldn't break ribs. That whole routine was very impressive.
